Bomba con nata, a true Veracruz style delight

In the state of Veracruz there is a traditional dessert that no one can resist, it is the delicious Bomba con nata, which consists of a sweet bread, cut in half and filled with rich cream. The perfect dessert for any time of the day.

A flavor explosion

One of the most famous and well-known restaurants in almost the entire state of Veracruz is “La Parroquia”. Here you can enjoy the delicious and classic ‘bomba con nata’. In the mornings and evenings, tourists and locals gather in this place that has remained since the 70s.

Personalities like politicians and even royalty have arrived to this place. Artists such as Octavio Paz, Germán Dehesa, José Luis Cuevas are also part of the list.  King Juan Carlos I and Prince Edward of England have stepped on this place also.

Its specialty is the traditional dessert, the bomba con nata, which is accompanied by a delicious ‘lechero’ (coffee with milk). Over time, this delicious dessert has been reinventing itself, since it is now possible to find even chocolate and fruit flavors.

They are even very easy to prepare, all you need is:

Ingredients:

450 grams of flour

100 grams of sugar

2 eggs

150 ml. milk

25 g. fresh yeast

25 g. sunflower oil

400 g. of whipping cream

Icing sugar

Preparation of the bomba con nata

In a deep bowl add the flour, eggs, sugar, and yeast milk, make sure to mix very well and knead. Cover the container with a cloth and let the dough rest for 20 minutes.

Add oil little by little to the mixture until finished. Cover again and let sit for 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 160 °, then begin to form balls of dough, place them on a tray and place in the oven for 15 minutes or until the bread begins to form.

Then whip the cream with the icing sugar, and reserve in a pastry bag. Let the homemade bread cool and start to put the cream in half the bread.
