Jalisco is much more than tequila. It is diversity, tradition, culture and great natural settings that are nowhere else. An example of this is Sierra del Tigre located southeast of the state.

Sierra del Tigre is famous for its enormous length. To give you an idea, it covers the municipalities of: Mazamitla, Atoyac, Valle de Juárez, La Manzanilla de la Paz, and Zapotiltic. Likewise, Zapotlán el Grande, Concepción de Buenos Aires, Tamazula de Gordiano and Gómez Farías.


As you can imagine, is a landscape that includes an infinite variety of natural wealth. Some of the most famous elements are the pine, and oak forests. In addition, dams, and waterfalls are distributed throughout the entire mountain range. As if that were not enough, it is a space full of history. The mountains witnessed the most emblematic fights during the Mexican Revolution.

What to do in Sierra del Tigre?

The activities you can do are very diverse. But first we recommend you to visit all the municipalities that comprise the sierra. The tradition and local events that exist in each of them round off the whole experience of traveling with parties, joy and contemplation.

Then, dare to fly above Sierra del Tigre through a hot air balloon. Or, admire the water and the sky with agrotourism. If you are more adventurous, then the zip line, hiking, mountaineering, mountain biking and horseback riding are for you.

Live the culture of the area in person

Some of the most important areas of Sierra del Tigre are Mazamitla and Zapotlán el Grande. The first has as its main attraction the waterfall “El Salto”, and is an ideal place to appreciate the surroundings of the place. On the other hand, Zapotlán houses two volcanic complexes; the Nevado de Colima and the Volcano of Fire. Both natural beauties that are covered in snow during winter


Finally, enjoy its delicious cuisine and do not forget to try the roundabouts, wheat gordita<s, sweet potato tatemado, capirotada, minguiche, and of course, the typical and delicious frijoles puercos. Visit Sierra del Tigre, visit Jalisco and get to know the state that exists beyond tequila!
