For their 20th anniversary celebration, Vogue Mexico presents the six most iconic covers. In one of them, they portray the Mexican raramuri runner, Lorena Ramírez.
Vogue wants to tribute women
Vogue Mexico is responsible to highlight Mexican women. That’s why, on their anniversary’s covers they portray women like the dancer Elisa Carrillo and the actress Irene Azuela.
Also the architect Frida Escobedo, chef Abigail Mendoza, who cooks Oaxaca’s traditional meals. And chef Elena Reygadas, the restaurant owner Gabriela Cámara and the mezcal master Graciela Ángeles.
Some of the women are famous and others are not. But we can say that these covers are a tribute to the country. And, of course, a tribute to all Mexican women who have raised us. That is what de editoral director, Karla Martínez, said about these Vogue covers.
Lorena Ramírez, raramuri runner
María Lorena Ramírez is known as the raramuri runner who participates on marathons wearing traditional outfits and huaraches. Now, she’s an inspiration for many women all over the world. And even though she never thought of becoming an international runner, her victories and races in Europe and Mexico have taken her really far.
Native from the Tarahumara community, she has become the first raramuri woman to compete in an European ultramarathon. In addition, she has participated in many marketing campaigns to promote her country.
“I like being raramuri, I enjoy having this culture, the lands that I step on, where I’ve grown, it’s a beautiful place. We have everything here in Chihuahua, trees, a lot of things. I feel very happy of what I’ve got” said Lorena for Vogue Mexico.
Probably, she never thought of being part of the most amazing covers of the most important fashion magazine all over the world. And we are proud of every mexican woman.
