From garbage to a valuable object

This giant sustainable plant, result of Coca-Cola, not only contributes to shaping a better future. But it keeps its commitment to the environment day by day. In just one year, more than 65 thousand tons of PET were treated. As well as 3 thousand 100 million bottles. That is, the equivalent of filling the Azteca Stadium 2.4 times.

As if that were not enough, the treatments and their operation incorporate innovative technology and practices in PET collection. As it consumes 75% less energy in the process of converting the containers into recycled resin to food grade. Which contributes to the decrease of the carbon footprint.

PetStar recovers almost 60% of existing PET in the market

Currently, 350 thousand bottles per hour are processed in the plant continuously and it provides work for more than one thousand people. Among them, there’s the people who participate in the collection and transportation labor.

It should be noted that all bottles come from Mexico and its recycling is very simple. The bottles are recycled and later converted into pallet. Besides, the pallet is a wooden, plastic or pressed cardboard frame. With which new bottles are manufactured that go directly to the Coca-Cola system.

“We are the company that makes the most recycled food approved resin, which are once again in bottles in the world. We promote a cycled economy that consists of the reuse of natural resources, reincorporating them permanently in closed cycles to achieve a similar product ”.

Jaime Cámara, general director of PetStar

The goal?

Ensure that by 2030 100% of Coca-Cola containers are recovered. To achieve a world without waste. In addition, complete a series of environmental, social and economic needs that revitalize the world. According to the company, so far the advance is by 70%, a number that, despite the circumstances, is already profit.
