Mammoths in Tultepec

The discoverers say that these, apparently, are two artificial mammoth traps. But the most amazing thing is that no other traps have been found in other parts of the world. It is the first one ever recorded!

According to the report, the finding happened in a municipal ejido by workers from San Antonio Xahuento, Tultepec. It happened in January of this year, while doing jobs to create a landfill. It was then that it was reported to the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).

According to the INAH archaeologist, Luis Córdoba Barradas, they found 800 bones of at least 14 mammoths. And they are about 14,700 years old. As well as a camel jaw and a horse molar.

There could be more findings!

Carbon 14 tests are still missing to be able confirm the estimated date of the trap. Although they obtained the approximate because they found 12 centimeters of ashes from the Popocatepetl volcano of the same age.

So far there are two proven traps, but there is a possibility that there are more. Although much remains to be investigated, it is said that the remains will be exhibited in the Mammoth Museum of Tultepec. But for the moment it will remain closed to the public.

These remains are not the only mammoth bones found in the State of Mexico. There are also those of the Ecatepec mammoth, which are more than 10,000 years old.

Definitely, this mammoth trap could provide a lot of information about the first years of the planet.
